Katherine has won the Northern Territory’s Top Tourism Town Award. The awards are designed to showcase the value of tourism to many towns and communities across Australia, encourage visitor dispersal into regional Australia. The awards recognise those local Tourism Operators, Visitor Centres and Councils committed to making their town the very best destination it can be.

Katherine now has the opportunity to represent Northern Territory at the National Awards and be named Australia’s Top Tourism Town.

“Congratulations to our local tourism operators and hospitality businesses here in Katherine, this award is an achievement and I commend you on your efforts,” said Mayor Clark.

After what had been a tumultuous and uncertain year for the Tourism sector, 2020/21 has seen record-smashing sales at the Katherine Visitor Information Centre (KVIC).

The KVIC has absolutely obliterated the previous sales record of $1.3M set in 2018/2019 with a total of $3 Million in total bookings for 2020/21.

Thanks to initiatives such as the NT Tourism Vouchers, Territorians were able to explore their own backyard and support our local tourism operators. As a result, Katherine saw exceptionally strong support during typically quiet periods like the wet season.

“Thank you to all Northern Territorians who did their bit for our tourism economy. Thank you for spending time in our beautiful region and spending your hard-earned dollars with local businesses” said, Mayor Lis Clark.

If you’re looking to book your next adventure, be sure to see the friendly team at the Visitor Information Centre.
