Australia’s Senior Citizen of the Year, Yalmay Yunupingu, is a guest speaker at this year’s sold out
International Women’s Day event at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre (GYRACC) at 10 am on
Friday 8 March.

Ms Yunupingu, a respected elder in her north-east Arnhem Land community, is a teacher and linguist and
has guided teaching at the Yirrkala Bilingual School for four decades. Her lifelong focus on inspiring Yolgnu
children to walk confidently in both worlds embodies this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘inspire
inclusion’.

The speakers' panel also includes the Member for Arnhem, the Hon. Selena Uibo, who holds a diverse
portfolio of NT Government Ministries, and Michelle Duggan, a young Darwin-based lawyer who was born
and raised in Katherine.

The sold out event, organised by the Katherine Town Council and supported by GYRACC, includes a morning
tea and professional photo portrait shoot, and local interior design business Outstation Interiors + Design
has provided a lucky door prize.
