It's Election Year!

The 2025 Local Government Elections will be held in August in 16 councils across the Territory.

Territorians will vote to elect council representatives for their local communities.

Local councils are the level of government closest to the community. They make important decisions that impact day-to-day activities  - everything from roads and footpaths to pools, parks, and sporting fields.

Important Dates in this year's Election

  • 11 August - Early Voting commences 
  • 23rd August - Election Day 8 am-6 pm
  • 8 September - Declaration of Election Results

Past Events

  • 11th June- Information Session for Katherine Town Council held at the Visitor Information Centre
  • 30th June - Information Session with NTEC and LGANT
  • 23rd July - Candidate Nomination Session, Katherine Library Conference Room 
  • 23rd July - Nominations close at midday
  • 1st August - Declaration of names of the duly nominated candidates
  • 7 August - Meet the Candidates session - Join Katherine Town Council at Godinymayin Yijard River Arts and Culture Centre to meet the candidates in the 2025 Local Government Elections. 
  • Saturday 9 August (9 - 12 noon) Meet the Candidates at Katherine Community Markets - Lindsay Street
  • Sunday 10 August (9 - 12 noon) Meet the Candidates at KTown Markets - Showgrounds
