Workplace Health and Safety Officer

Salary $91,524.69 – $100,567.03 Level 6

This is an opportunity to take ownership of safety in a role where your expertise will have a real and visible impact across the organisation. As our WHS Officer, you won’t just maintain compliance — you’ll help shape a positive, proactive safety culture that supports our people to do their best work safely every day.

You’ll work closely with leaders and teams across Council, influence meaningful change, and contribute to building a workplace where safety is embedded in everything we do. If you’re looking for a role where you can grow your career, be valued for your knowledge, and make a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Reporting to the Manager People and Culture, this position plays a key role in fostering a consistent, proactive, and positive Work Health and Safety (WHS) culture across the organisation.

You will provide practical support, guidance, and education to employees on all WHS matters, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and promoting safe work practices. The role is responsible for managing and responding to WHS reports, driving timely corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

A minimum of 1-2 years of WHS experience is required to effectively provide practical support, guidance, and education to employees on all WHS matters.

This position will also lead the identification and implementation of corrective and preventative actions arising from internal and external audits. In addition, you will coordinate, deliver, and monitor mandatory WHS training to ensure employees meet legislative obligations and maintain core competency requirements.

A Diploma in WHS is required as the minimum qualification for this Workplace Health and Safety Officer position.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for this position with Katherine Town Council.
