Katherine Town Council is seeking a community-focused and proactive Ranger to join our Infrastructure and Environment team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in protecting community safety, supporting animal management, enforcing local laws, and helping maintain a clean and safe municipality.

About the role
As a Ranger, you will work across a broad range of responsibilities including local law enforcement, animal control, parking compliance, litter management, community education, and regulatory services. You will engage directly with the public, investigate complaints, issue infringements where required, and contribute to positive community outcomes through education and proactive engagement.
This role suits someone who is confident working independently, can communicate effectively in challenging situations, and enjoys working outdoors and within the community.

Key responsibilities
-
Enforce Council local laws, regulations and policies
-
Undertake animal management and pound operations
-
Investigate complaints including nuisance animals and parking matters
-
Conduct patrols and issue infringement notices where required
-
Provide community education and advice
-
Prepare reports, briefs of evidence and attend court when required

Support community safety and regulatory compliance initiatives
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:

Experience in a similar Ranger, compliance or regulatory role

Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
-
Ability to interpret and apply legislation and Council policies

Current NT Driver’s Licence

Current HR Licence
-
Experience using Microsoft Office programs
-
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement

Cert IV in Local Government Investigation (or willingness to obtain)
-
Firearms Licence A & B (or willingness to obtain)
Experience in Local Government and animal management qualifications will be highly regarded.
