Assistant Ranger – Katherine Town Council

Katherine Town Council is seeking a motivated and community-focused Assistant Ranger to join our Infrastructure and Environment team. About the role

As an Assistant Ranger, you will work under the guidance of the Ranger team while developing practical skills and knowledge in local law enforcement, animal management, parking compliance, community education, and regulatory services.

The role includes conducting patrols and inspections, assisting with animal control and pound operations, investigating complaints, supporting parking and signage enforcement, preparing documentation and infringement notices, and engaging positively with the community.

This is a hands-on and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, communicating with people from all walks of life, and contributing to the safety and wellbeing of the Katherine community.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Current NT Driver’s Licence

  • Current Police and Working with Children Clearance

  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to understand and apply legislation and Council policies

  • Willingness to work with animals and assist in animal management activities

  • Firearms Licence A & B (or willingness to obtain)

Experience in Local Government or animal management will be highly regarded.
