Katherine Town Council is giving residents a head start on their wet season clean-up with a limited offer fee waiver when they dispose of some bulky items at the waste facility.
The pre-cyclone clean-up will take place at the Waste Management Facility on Saturday, 15 November and Saturday, 29 November 2025, from 8 am to 2 pm allowing Katherine residents to safely dispose of a designated number of large household items at no cost over those two days.
Mayor Joanna Holden said the program is designed to help keep people safe in dangerous weather events.
“These large items can be hazardous in severe storms or floods,” she said. “By offering free disposal days before the wet, Council is giving residents a practical way to tidy up and make their properties safer.”
The pre-cyclone season clean-up offers a free disposal option for select household items that would normally incur a disposal fee. Household limits apply to ensure all residents can take part:
- Non-degassed fridges – up to two per household
- Gas cylinders – up to three per household
- Fire extinguishers – up to three per household
- Mattresses – up to two per household
- Couches – up to one per household
This initiative is available to residents of Katherine only, and proof of residency will be required at the gate. Commercial operators are not eligible.
We expect this to be a popular offer, so we ask residents to be patient as our staff manage the increased traffic at the facility.
