Katherine Town Council has appointed eight community members to its new Katherine Community Safety Action Group (KCSAG).
The Community Safety Action Group has been established to support Council’s ongoing commitment to a safe, inclusive and connected community. Through collaboration, discussion and community engagement, the Group will help identify local safety priorities and emerging issues and provide input on opportunities to strengthen community wellbeing. At its Ordinary Meeting on 25 August 2026, Council appointed:
- Freya Bartle
- Anne Hesse
- Christine Butler
- Samantha Phelan
- Dennis Hannah
- Lesley Pitt
- Jennifer Duggan
- Natalie Ellis
The appointments follow an Expression of Interest process which attracted strong interest from the community.
Council sought a mix of people who could bring different experiences and perspectives to the group. Applications were considered based on each person’s potential contribution, their community experience and the need to ensure a broad cross-section of the Katherine community was represented.
Acting Mayor Mel Doyle said people who live and work in Katherine have valuable first-hand knowledge of local safety issues and can play an important role in identifying practical solutions.
“This group provides an opportunity for community members to bring their concerns and ideas together and work with Council, the NT Government and other organisations on ways to improve safety in Katherine,” Acting Mayor Mel Doyle said.
“We had strong interest from people wanting to be involved, which reflects how important community safety is to Katherine.
“The eight people appointed bring different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to the group, and we look forward to working with them.”
