Published on Thursday, 5 February 2026 at 3:04:12 PM

Katherine Town Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to relocate the Visitor Information Centre and co-locate it with the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre.

The proposal was approved by a prior Council, and funding has been secured for the relocation.

Since taking office, the current Council has committed to checking back in with the community before proceeding with the proposal.

No final decision has been made.

The proposed relocation would move the Visitor Information Centre from its current location to GYRACC, bringing visitor information together with one of Katherine’s key cultural attractions.

Council is inviting feedback to better understand community views, including any benefits, concerns or issues that may need to be considered before a decision is made.

Tourism operators have been contacted directly with a tailored survey. Residents, local businesses and visitors are encouraged to have their say by

  • Visiting elected members at a pop-up consultation booth at the Oasis Shopping Centre on Saturday, 7 February from 9 am to 12 pm.
  • Emailing feedback to contactus@nt.gov.au

Consultation closes on 15 February 2026.

All feedback received will be reviewed and considered by Council before determining the next steps.
