Katherine Town Council has formally adopted the 2025–2026 Municipal Plan, including its annual budget, long-term financial plan, and fees and charges.
After the successful delivery of last year’s goals, Council’s 2025–2026 Plan again maintains a strong focus on core services such as infrastructure upgrades, community engagement, and environmental sustainability, while delivering a number of exciting new and continuing projects across the municipality.
The 2025–2026 Municipal Plan was developed with the opportunity for community input through a 21-day public consultation period, to ensure alignment with local needs and aspirations.
“This Municipal Plan is more than a list of projects; it’s a roadmap shaped by teamwork, resilience, and a shared belief in our town’s potential,” said Mayor Elisabeth Clark, who is concluding a successful 18-year tenure in local government.
“It sets out a clear, community-focused vision for a resilient and inclusive future that supports growth, protects what makes Katherine special, and puts people first..”
Among the major capital works featured in the Plan are Stage 1 of the Katherine Aquatic Centre Upgrade, the Civic Centre Refurbishment, the construction of a new nature play park, and the rollout of a 5.7km shared pathway along Zimin Drive.
Council is also launching a solar street lighting trial in Katherine South to address recurrent faults and support its goal of environmental sustainability, and implementing initiatives to improve visitor experience in Katherine, and enhance public amenities and outdoor spaces.
2026 also marks the beginning of a year-long program of celebrations for the Centenary of Katherine. A flagship gala dinner, community-led events, and enhanced tourism offerings will commemorate 100 years since the town's official gazettal.
CEO Ingrid Stonhill, said “This Plan builds on the momentum already driving our town forward. We’re not only enhancing infrastructure but delivering safer, smarter, and more connected services that support growth and protect what makes Katherine special. I encourage everyone to read the plan, and we look forward to shaping Katherine’s future together.”
The front cover of the Plan features the winning design from the Centenary of Katherine 2026 Logo Competition, submitted by Katherine-based artist Kim Maskell. This new visual identity will be used throughout the centenary celebrations next year.
The 2025–2026 Municipal Plan, including the Annual Budget, Long-Term Financial Plan, and schedule of fees and charges, is now available for download from the Katherine Town Council website or in hard copy from the Civic Centre.
