Katherine Town Council is spreading the Christmas cheer after securing Northern Territory Government funding to provide free public admission to the Katherine Aquatic Centre during the January school holiday period.
Free entry will be available from 29 December to 27 January.
The newly redeveloped Katherine Aquatic Centre has something for everyone, from the splash zone for little ones to the accessible 25-metre pool and 50-metre lane pool, making it a great place for families to cool off over the holidays.
Mayor Joanna Holden said the initiative makes it easier for families to enjoy the pool during the wet season, when temperatures are high and other swimming options are limited.
“This is about making the most of a great facility and ensuring cost isn’t a barrier for families looking to stay active through January. With the support of Northern Territory Government funding, it’s a great way for families to dive into the new year. It’s fun, it’s supervised, and it’s one of the best places in town to cool off during the wet season,” Mayor Holden said.
The Aquatic Centre is managed by Y Katherine, who oversees day-to-day operations and staffing.
The Aquatic Centre will operate during the school holidays:
- Monday to Friday: 11.00 am – 7.00 pm
- Weekends: 11.00 am – 4.00 pm
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free entry period and enjoy the Aquatic Centre over the school holidays.
