Flood verge collection

Contractors are mobilising to Katherine.

  • Residents in flood‑affected areas may begin placing whitegoods, furniture, clothing, bedding and similar items on their verges for collection. You will need remove all food contents from the fridges, freezers and similar items and place this into your wheelie bin.
  • Verge collections will commence Thursday, 12 March, and will continue for two weeks. The contractor will complete multiple sweeps through all flood‑affected areas.
  • Food waste should be placed in your kerbside bin as normal.
  • Residents are encouraged to check with their insurer for any requirements before placing items on the verge.

Waste Management Facility (WMF)

The WMF will reopen in a limited capacity once the road network becomes accessible.

Lost your wheelie bin?

We currently have a limited supply of wheelie bins, so please only request a replacement if you do not have a bin at all.

If you lost your bin in the flood and require a new one, please contact Council on 8972 5500 or email records@ktc.nt.gov.au.

We are unable to access the contractor’s compound at this time due to high water levels, which means we cannot retrieve additional bins immediately.

However, we will begin recording your details including your name, address and contact number, so that once access is restored, we can start delivering replacement bins as quickly as possible.

Mayor of Katherine Joanna Holden wanted to thank the Northern Territory Government and its agency partners an contractors for working with Katherine Town Council to respond quickly to managing waste in the face of the flood emergency. 

"It's a great community we have here, not just the volunteers on the ground, but the government staff and local contractors who just jump right in and work together to get these essential services back," she said.
