Katherine Town Council has activated additional waste services to support residents in cleaning up after the recent flooding.
A temporary waste transfer station has opened at the weighbridge site at 651 Stuart Highway.
Opening hours are:
- 12 March: 12 noon – 5.30 pm
- From 13 March: 7.30 am – 5.30 pm daily
Normal kerbside rubbish collection has now resumed across Katherine.
Residents who lost their wheelie bin during the floods can request a replacement by calling Council on 8972 5500, emailing records@ktc.nt.gov.au, or lodging a request through the Snap Send Solve app using the incident type “Lost your Wheelie Bin – Flood 2026”.
Council contractors have also begun collecting flood-damaged household goods from across town.
Residents are encouraged to place damaged items such as fridges, furniture and other large household goods on the verge outside their property for collection.
Items should be placed on the verge, not on the road; footpaths should be kept clear, and any loose items inside appliances should be removed to assist crews with safe collection.
Getting flood-damaged items out early will help speed up the clean-up across the Katherine community.
