Council Services Relocating to Crawford Street for Civic Centre Upgrade

Katherine Town Council’s Civic Centre will close from 1 September 2025, with services temporarily relocating to the former Roper Gulf Regional Council building at 29 Crawford Street, Katherine East.

The move makes way for the Civic Centre’s major 12-month refurbishment.

From 8 September, all customer service, administration, and Council staff will operate from the former Roper Gulf Regional Council building at 29 Crawford Street, Katherine East.

To support the move, payments and general enquiries will be available at the Katherine Public Library from 1–5 September. This may be delayed depending on final phone and IT connections, with further updates to be provided closer to the date.

Council meetings will be held at the Big Rivers Government Centre at 5 First Street, Katherine.

Essential Council services will continue uninterrupted during the relocation, including:

  • Road and park maintenance
  • Rubbish collection
  • Ranger duties
  • Community relations
  • Counter enquiries
  • Service requests

CEO Ingrid Stonhill said the relocation was carefully planned to minimise disruption to the community.

“We’re committed to continuing service delivery while we invest in a Civic Centre that will better serve Katherine into the future,” Ms Stonhill said.

“Our new temporary base at Crawford Street will allow our team to stay connected and support the community without interruption.”

The Civic Centre refurbishment is scheduled for completion by August 2026. More project information can be found on yoursaykatherine.com.au
