Community to choose charity for Centenary number plate auction proceeds

Katherine residents are being asked to help decide which local charity will receive the proceeds from the auction of the special KC 100 Centenary number plate.

Katherine Town Council has reserved the KC 100 plate as part of the limited-edition Centenary of Katherine 1926–2026 number plate series, which was developed through the Council’s Centenary Advisory Committee to mark 100 years since Katherine was officially gazetted as a township.

The plate will be auctioned during the Territory Day Centenary celebrations at the Katherine Showgrounds, with all proceeds donated to a local charity.

Katherine Town Council elected members have shortlisted three potential recipients:

  • RSPCA Katherine
  • National Trust
  • Katherine Museum

Mayor Joanna Holden said the number plates were created as a community-led Centenary initiative, so it was fitting that the community helped decide where the auction proceeds should go.

“The KC 100 plate is a special part of Katherine’s Centenary year,” Mayor Holden said.

“It recognises 100 years of Katherine, but it also gives us a chance to support a local organisation that contributes to our town.

“Council has shortlisted three worthy recipients, and now we want the community to have their say.

“Whether people choose to support animal welfare, local history or the preservation of Katherine’s heritage, the funds will stay connected to organisations that matter to our community.”

The Centenary number plate series features the Katherine Railway Bridge, acknowledging its role in the town’s establishment and its lasting significance in Katherine’s history.

Residents can vote in a Quick Poll on Your Say Katherine, with the organisation receiving the most votes named as the charity recipient before the auction.
