Katherine Town Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from community members, local businesses, waste management industry representatives, Aboriginal organisations and regional stakeholders to join a new Waste Management Strategy Review Working Group.
The Working Group will support Council in reviewing and redeveloping the Katherine Waste Management Strategy before the current strategy expires at the end of 2026.
The group will help shape future priorities, including recycling, landfill planning, resource recovery, organics management, illegal dumping, future infrastructure and financial sustainability.
Katherine Town Council Mayor Joanna Holden said waste management is an issue that affects every household, business and community organisation.
“Waste management is something that touches everyone in our community, whether it is kerbside collection, recycling, landfill, illegal dumping, or how we plan for the future,” Mayor Holden said.
“Up to eight community and stakeholder positions are available, and we want this Working Group to include a broad mix of people with local knowledge, practical experience and different perspectives.
“You do not need formal qualifications to apply. We are looking for people who care about Katherine and want to help shape what comes next.”
The Working Group is advisory only and does not have decision-making powers.
Meetings will generally be held monthly, with online participation available. Expressions of Interest close Sunday, 18 April 2026. More information and to apply, go to the Your Say Katherine website.
