Community Grants Program Updated to Celebrate Katherine Centenary!
Katherine Town Council has opened its 2025-26 community grants program today, which this year includes an extra round of funds for not-for-profits to mark next year's centenary.
When Katherine’s railway bridge was completed on July 15, 1926, the present site of Katherine was officially gazetted. Ninety-nine years later, we are fast approaching 100 years of Katherine. This additional funding is allocated to promote the Centenary of Katherine 2026.
There is $20,000 available within the regular community grants program, and an additional $40,000 within the new centenary grants program.
Both the community and centenary grants programs offer minor grants of up to $2000 and major grants of up to $5000 for projects and events that align with the Council's five-year strategic plan through promoting social cohesion and community development that meets local needs. Centenary grants must contribute to celebrating or acknowledging the Centenary of Katherine 2026.
The funding can cover capital purchases, community events, and initiatives, and recipients must co-contribute financially or in kind.
CEO Ingrid Stonhill said the Council supported 11 projects last year and is looking forward to encouraging new and exciting events to honour the Centenary of Katherine in 2026 and celebrate our vibrant community.
The 2025/26 grant program applications are open from 1 to 31 August 2025. Documents and forms can be found on the website here. For more information, contact Isabella Murphy at events@ktc.nt.gov.au or (08) 8972 5500.
