Katherine Town Council has welcomed the release of a limited-edition Centenary of Katherine number plate series, developed as part of Council’s Centenary of Katherine 2026 program.

The commemorative number plates were the brainchild of Katherine Town Council’s Centenary Advisory Committee and are one of a suite of initiatives and events being delivered to mark 100 years since Katherine was officially gazetted as a township in 1926.

Following a request from Council, the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure will release the plates through the Motor Vehicle Registry from 2 February.

A total of 100 NT Centenary of Katherine 1926–2026 number plates will be available for purchase at all Motor Vehicle Registry locations. The plates recognise the town’s Centenary milestone and reflect the Advisory Committee’s aim to create meaningful, visible ways for the community to take part in the celebrations.

The artwork on the plates features the iconic Katherine Railway Bridge, acknowledging its role as the catalyst for Katherine’s establishment and its lasting significance in the town’s history.

As part of the Centenary program, Katherine Town Council has reserved the number plate KC 100 for auction at a Centenary event later in the year, with proceeds donated to charity.

The remaining plates will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from February through to December 2026, subject to demand. Plates are valued at the cost of a personalised number plate, $300, and must be affixed to a registered vehicle at the time of purchase. Plates cannot be reserved or purchased as souvenirs.

Eligible purchasers must be Northern Territory residents with a current NT-registered vehicle in their name.

A full calendar of Centenary of Katherine 2026 initiatives and events will continue to be rolled out across the year.
