Katherine Town Council has unveiled the official events program to mark 100 years since Katherine was gazetted as a town, with a calendar full of opportunities for locals and visitors to celebrate the milestone together.
Katherine Town Council’s Centenary calendar runs from June to August and is packed with opportunities for locals

and visitors to get involved, reconnect and be part of this once-in-a-generation milestone.
The program features a plethora of events, from family fun days and community gatherings to a Centenary sports carnival, NAIDOC Week events and a special Centenary film celebration. It’s a mix of familiar traditions, local stories and new experiences that reflect the people and places that make Katherine what it is today.
The signature celebration will be the Territory Day event on 1 July at the Katherine Showgrounds. Marking both Territory Day and Katherine’s official Gazettal Day, this will be the main event of the Centenary year, featuring a headline performer, the Centenary personalised number plate auction and a full evening of entertainment, fireworks and exhibitions.
Another standout event will be the Centenary Street Parade, travelling through town and finishing at the National Trust’s Railway Fair. The Parade’s theme will be “Katherine through the Years”, and Council anticipates strong community support.
Mayor Joanna Holden said the Centenary program has been shaped by local people and built around what matters to Katherine.
“This is an important milestone for our town, and we want everyone to feel part of it,” Mayor Holden said.
“Katherine is a place where people show up for each other, and this program gives us plenty of opportunities to come together and celebrate.”
The events program was developed by the Centenary Advisory Committee and continues to be guided by the Centenary Working Group. The group includes community members alongside Council representatives.
The full Centenary events calendar is available on the Council’s website and will be updated as more events are confirmed.
