2025 Katherine Disability Awards Celebrate Local Champions

Katherine’s disability community came together for a mid-morning formal awards ceremony today at Knotts Crossing Resort to recognise people and organisations making a difference in the lives of people living with disability. The event celebrated achievement, inclusion and community strength and wrapped up with a celebratory disco.

2025 Award Winners

  • Outstanding Person with a Disability of the YearChristina Fowler
    Recognised for her resilience, independence and tireless advocacy for essential supports, as well as her kindness, humility and positive spirit.
  • Outstanding Young Person with a Disability of the YearJackson Robertson
    Awarded for his strong work ethic, initiative and professionalism in his role with NT Friendship, along with his caring and respectful nature.
  • Outstanding Support Person of the YearHillary Lenehan
    Recognised for her dedication, leadership and strong advocacy for people with disability through inclusive community programs.
  • Excellence in Education and EmploymentKintore Street School
    Awarded for its long-standing commitment to inclusive education and preparing students with disability for independent and meaningful lives.

The event’s guest speakers were local Member of Parliament Jo Hersey and disability and seniors’ rights advocate Ramnik Walia. Mr Walia is a senior advocate with the Darwin Community Legal Service and has worked across the Territory to remove barriers so older people and people with disability can live active, dignified lives. He was recently nominated for the 2026 NT Local Hero Award for his advocacy.

The ceremony also recognised the important work of local disability service providers NT Friendship, Carmel Care, Step Out, JMJ Disability Service and Inclusion NT.
