About the Library

Our Library

Katherine Public Library is a free community service, offering memberships to all residents of the Katherine region. Members can borrow books, including Fiction, Non-Fiction, Youth and Junior, Magazines, DVDs, CDs, Graphic novels and Spoken Word.

The Library includes a Northern Territory collection, which is an exclusive collection of books and other items about the Northern Territory and Katherine Region, including local Authors. Members also have free access to a range of online resources such as eBooks, audiobooks and digital magazines, through the borrow box application (available through the Apple Store and Google Play).

Temporary Memberships are available for patrons that are visiting Katherine.

Get online via the Library’s public computers or log into our free Wi-Fi. Katherine Public Library provides members with 1-hour free usage of public computers. If you prefer to use your own device, you can use the free unlimited Wi-Fi within the premise.

The Library also offers services including; photocopy, scan, fax, print, laminating and binding, at a charge.

Seniors Digital Literacy

Are you a senior that would like to learn more about your electronic device? Whether it is a laptop, computer, iPad or tablet, the Library can help.

Weekly lessons are held in the Library, to assist you in getting the most benefits from your device. These will include topics concerning online safety, creating documents, navigating your way online, family history and much more. Talk to one of our friendly staff to ask for more information or to book a lesson. These sessions are Free.

Pension cardholders also receive free access to public computers.

Children’s and Youth Programs

Katherine Public Library provides early year’s programs for children, including Wriggle and Rhyme (0-12months), Toddler Rhyme Time (1-3years) and Storytime (3-5 years). Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a program aimed for youth aged 13 and above. D&D is a ’high magic’ fantasy game and story-telling experience played, out by a small group of people. The Library also has a Frillies Club, which caters for primary school students, Transition to Year 6. Throughout the year, the Library provides school holiday programs, during term breaks. Katherine Public Library is a service provided by Katherine Town Council with assistance from the Northern Territory Government.
