The $5.45 million dollar facility, funded by the Northern Territory Government, Australian Sports Commission and Katherine Town Council provides a modern meeting place for the Katherine community.
“It’s multipurpose, accessible, and is designed to suit our hot weather climate with a breezeway and shade,” Mayor Lis Clark said. “We feel fortunate to have this facility for our community.”
The Katherine and Big Rivers Community, Sports and Recreation Venue includes:
- Air-conditioned kitchen with serving windows to indoor/outdoor spaces
- Includes 3x lockable food storages with refrigerator
- 2x covered outdoor spectator area with connecting BBQ space to north and south ovals
- Modern changerooms with showers, toilets and lockers
- First aid facility. Small room with bed to treat minor injuries or wait for an ambulance
- Public toilets and a cleaner’s room
- Storage rooms for club sports equipment, with easy access to ovals
- 2x office spaces for club administration
- Upgraded carparking
- Security facilities. Building constructed with sturdy materials to withstand sun and damage
The Grand Opening will be on Tuesday 20 September 2022 at 12pm, a light lunch will be provided.
