Kerbside Collection
Council tenders the kerbside collection out to contractors in the region. Council is aware of the community’s interest in kerbside recycling and will keep looking for opportunities to make it economically viable. Information on collection services is below.

Request a bin
If the bin is for a new dwelling or an additional service for an existing dwelling, please complete a Snap, Send, Solve request.
If your bin has been stolen or damaged and you require a replacement bin, please complete a Snap, Send, Solve request.
Batteries: keep them out of your wheelie bin
Do not place batteries in your wheelie bin. If they are crushed or damaged during collection or waste processing, they can catch fire and put waste workers and facilities at risk. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are a particular concern.
Remember to check items with built-in batteries, including phones, laptops, vapes, power banks, wireless earbuds, toys and power tools. These items also do not belong in your wheelie bin.
What to do

Do take used household batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and car batteries to the designated collection area at the Katherine Waste Management Facility, Lot 5043 Novis Quarry Road. Drop-off is free.

Do cover the terminals of loose batteries with clear tape before bringing them in.

Do ask facility staff for advice if a battery is swollen, leaking or damaged.

Don’t put batteries or battery-powered items in your wheelie bin.

Don’t place a damaged battery in a collection bin without speaking to staff first.
You can also drop off mobile phones and their batteries for recycling at the Council office and Katherine Public Library.
