Katherine Town Council’s installation of solar lights along the River Link Trail pathway behind the Katherine Cemetery between Smyth Court and Giles Street will impact walkway access this week.

The installation of solar lights is part of the Northern Territory Government’s Safer Territories initiative, which helps tackle antisocial behaviour in public spaces.
Katherine Town Council will install 32 solar lights along the River Link Trail pathway, but the construction will take place in two phases.

The first section will see the pathway between Smyth Court and Giles Street close for two to three days from Monday, March 25th to Wednesday, March 27th, 2024.
The second phase requires the section behind the cemetery to close from Wednesday, March 27th, to Thursday, March 28th, 2024.

Mayor Lis Clark said Katherine Town Council was fortunate to secure the funding which will light up otherwise dark pathways for people walking at night.

“We are rolling this solar lighting project out around town, and this is one of several pathways lit up. We are grateful for the Northern Territory Government funding that helps up increase our town’s public safety,” Mayor Clark said.
