At a Confidential Special Meeting of Council held on Friday 29th October 2021 Council resolved to enter into a new three-year Management Agreement with Belgravia Leisure for the management of the Katherine Aquatic Centre.

Belgravia Leisure, with over 30 years’ experience, is an Australian owned and operated leisure management provider partnering with over 40 Local Government and State Government authorities. Together, they manage approximately 180 aquatic, sport, health and wellness facilities across Australia and New Zealand.

Council called for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from which Council received three very high- quality submissions.

Council would like to acknowledge that this will bring to an end, a run of 15 years of partnering with the YMCA. We thank the YMCA and their staff for their valued management services over these years.

Welcoming the appointment of Belgravia Leisure, Katherine Town Council Mayor, Cr Lis Clark acknowledged the important role aquatic facilities and services play in the lives of Katherine residents and visitors and said this appointment will bring a new dimension to the management and use of the Aquatic Centre.

Council will work with Belgravia Leisure and the YMCA to ensure that existing employees have been offered opportunities to transition employment between the two organisations. Belgravia Leisure have committed to employ locally with a target workforce participation of 100% Katherine residents, including a diversity target (ATSI) of 25%.

It is expected that the new Management company will commence at the facility from Monday 13 December 2021.

The three-year agreement at the facility can be extended by the Council for a further 12-month period.
