MEDIA RELEASE: Council Services Changes Due to COVID-19

In accordance with Federal Government restrictions and social distancing measures Katherine Town Council has made a number of significant changes to our services.

To limit the spread of COVID-19 and to adhere to these restrictions, Council is ceasing all facility hires for the foreseeable future.

Other areas of Council services have been altered including counter customer service through the Katherine Town Council Civic Centre, Katherine Public Library and Katherine Visitor Information Centre. These restrictions are outlined below:

Katherine Town Council Civic Centre

Access by the public restricted as of COB Friday 27 March 2020. The Civic Centre will be providing customer service via phone, email and website. Please note that payments can still be made online and over the phone during normal work hours.

Katherine Public Library

The Katherine Public Library is closed to the public and will be offering services from a remote capacity. Please contact the Library during business hours or follow Katherine Public Library on Facebook to keep up to date with revised services.

Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Centre will continue to provide customer service via telephone, email and website.

Hours: Monday -  Friday 8.30am to 5pm  l  Saturday & Sunday 10am to 2pm

As per Federal Government restrictions, several Council facilities are closed and are listed below.

  • Katherine Aquatic Centre
  • Katherine Sportsground
  • Katherine Showgrounds
  • Katherine Hot Springs
  • Adventure Play Park

Katherine Town Council CEO, Ian Bodill said “These measures are being implemented to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading across the community and we strongly encourage the community to abide by all restrictions and health advice”.

Rates

Interest on outstanding rate balances and any legal action will be immediately suspended until 30 June 2020 at which time this measure will be reviewed.
