Australia Day is a day to reflect, respect and celebrate the Australian spirit and the best of this country.

Katherine Town Councils Australia Day Ceremony was held at GYRACC from 9am and saw 18 conferees from 10 different countries become Australian citizens.

Citizen of the Year Awards were also presented to recognise people or groups that have given back to the community and helped others through these difficult times. Congratulations to the following winners and thank you for the great work you do in our community:

  • Community Event of the Year – Katherine Christmas Lights – Lindsay Street Complex
  • Young Citizen of the Year – Kial King
  • Senior Citizen of the Year – Elizabeth Hart
  • Citizen of the Year – Trent de With

Those who attended heard inspiring stories from our Australia Day Ambassador Kyle Bambra. Kyle is a living example that challenges don’t have to be barriers to achieving your dreams.

The morning closed with an Australian themed Morning Tea and a fly past thanks to Royal Australian Airforce.
