Media Release - Additional Bin Collection for Katherine Residents - 24 November 2021
Starting from tomorrow Thursday 25 November 2021, Council’s contractor will be commencing a second refuse collection.
The driver will continue to empty your bin as scheduled whilst providing you with the opportunity to re-fill your bin to be re-emptied again.
Residence MUST:
- BE SAFE – Stay well clear (at least 3m from the truck) and in view of the driver while the first bin is being picked up, emptied, and set back down
- Have your additional bagged household refuse nearby, so you can minimise the time to re-fill the bin for the second pick up, then stand clear as before
- Not cause any unnecessary delay (the driver will move on to the next house if no-one is there to re-fill the bin)
- DO NOT approach the driver, the driver will remain in their vehicle
- The driver will not collect any refuse that has been discarded on the kerb and the driver is prohibited to assist with re-filling your bin.
- ONLY bagged household refuse will be collected (no listed waste, no green waste, no furniture, or appliances)
There is no guarantee that the driver can complete the run for all households within their time constraints. The contractor is making their best effort to provide this additional service, wherever possible.
If you do not need this service, please do not use it. This will put extra strain on already stretched resources.
This is not a time to be doing a ‘spring clean’. There will be a time for this when access to the Waste Management Facility is available.
At this stage, for those who do not receive a kerb side collection, they are still able to utilise the WMF. You will need to show proof of your address, to ensure that you are on the list for non-kerb side collection.
Remember, illegal dumping will not be tolerated. Fines and penalties will apply.
