Community Consultation Monday 13 July

Katherine Town Council is pleased to provide the community with improvements for community consultation opportunities into the future.
Council decided to remove the Community Forum before the Ordinary Meeting of Council as it had become stale, unproductive and wasn’t working the way it was designed to function.

Elected Members understand and know the importance of communicating and engaging with the community. Discussions regarding ways to communicate and engage have been a regular topic for Council and it was decided to implement the following to assist with building a stronger relationship with the community:

  • Quarterly meetings for a minimum of two (2) hours that are open to the community, to provide an opportunity for everyone to discuss topics freely with Elected Members and Senior Staff. The first meeting will be held at the Civic Centre lawn 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Monday 13 July 2020, sausage sizzle provided.
  • Ordinary Meeting of Council will provide an opportunity for the community to attend the meeting and ask questions during a designated “Questions from the Community” on matters related to agenda items only.
  •  Specific meetings when the opportunity presents itself (e.g. seniors morning tea at the Hot Springs) and presentations at a designated facility.

These new opportunities will allow the community to have a minimum of three and a half (3 ½) hours per quarter to speak to Elected Members rather than the one and a half (1 ½) per quarter provided previously from the Open Forum.

Council encourages members of the public to ask questions or submit comments at any time of the month and this can be done through the Katherine Town Council website, email (records@ktc.nt.gov.au), phone 08 8972 5500 or asked in person at the Civic Centre.
