Commemorate ANZAC Day from Home

Published on Friday, 24 April 2020 at 4:58:59 PM

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, ANZAC Day services are closed to the public. Anzac Day 2020 will be different from how we traditionally commemorate, whilst social distancing restrictions are in place. The absence of services and marches will not affect the significance of ANZAC Day or the ability to commemorate from home.

Light up the Dawn #lightupthedawn

Katherine Town Council invites the community to Light up the Dawn at 6:00 am on Anzac Day. Stand in your driveway, living room or on the balcony with a candle as a tribute of respect.

Watch the Service

The Australian National War Memorial in Canberra will be broadcasting a live service on the ABC from 5.30 am as well as a broadcast of the closed service in Sydney at 10:00 am

Audio of the Service

If you would like to hold your own personal service within your home, audio can be found on the RSL QLD website (https://www.rslqld.org/News/Latest-News/Light-up-the-Dawn).

Documentaries

ABC is televising a range of documentaries. Please see below for a guide.

The most important thing is that we acknowledge ANZAC Day and take the minute silence to remember all those who served and sacrificed. For some people it may be taking apart in Light up the Dawn, making ANZAC biscuits or making a wreath or poppy and placing them on your driveway. For others, it maybe a few minutes of thoughtful silence.

Whichever way you choose to commemorate this occasion, we will remember our fallen and the way we pay our respects holds the same value.
