CBD Revitalisation Project

PROJECT BRIEF SCOPE

The principal objectives of the project are to:

  • Revitalise the Katherine CBD so as to provide it with a beautiful, inviting and functional street presence for locals and visitors
  • Establish Katherine as one of the best township CBDs in Australia
  • Encompass the elements of social/ cultural embodiment, economic prosperity and environmental viability
  • The project includes creating natural shade tree canopy through the accessible square, audio visual and decorative lighting capacity, cooling misters, a portable café/ kiosk and the construction of a new public ablution block.

October Update:

Currently 66% of the project is completed. Major Milestones achieved are

  • Installation of Light Columns and Overhead Beams
  • Installation of Knotwood panels on Main Awning
  • Installation of Steel Structure - Amenities Block
  • Electrical Cable - Overhead Beams
  • Stage Area Slab Completed

September Update:

Work at the CBD – Town Square is going as planned. Currently 55% of the project is completed. Major Milestones achieved during the month of September 2020

  • Installation of Stratavault tree pit system completed
  • Electrical underground works completed

Katherine Showgrounds Upgrades

Showgrounds Access Road Completed

An access road to accommodate the semi-trailer trucks loading and unloading stock safely at the showgrounds was constructed as part of the $2.2 million dollar upgrade to the facility which is funded by Department of Tourism and Culture. Three sections of the road were built.

  1. Access Road 1 –Starting from Murphy Street Entrance to Loop Road near Ablution Block. It is a two-way road for all traffic entering the showgrounds 

  2. Loop Road –Loop road for vehicles to turn around after dropping cattle at the loading ramp

  3. Access Road 2 –Starting from Murray Street Entrance to Loop road. It is a one-way road for Maintenance and Emergency vehicles only

Construction work began on the 10 June 2020 and was completed on the 19 August 2020.

Katherine Showgrounds Hydraulic Services 

Upgrades to the Showgrounds Hydraulic Services have been completed during a 16 week program.
The upgrade consisted of:

• Installation of HDPE sewer pump rising main
• Supply and install sewer pump chamber and pump control panel
• Provide cold water supply to the ablution block
• Provide sanitary drain to the amenities block
• Provide cold water supply to camping area hose taps
• Provide non-drinkable cold water supply to the existing trough and future rodeo drinking trough

Katherine Showgrounds Electrical Services
Electrical works to upgrade the power supply allowing for camping and future growth of the arena, have been carried out and completed in a 16 week program.

Works consisted of:
•Modifications to existing Main Switch Board (MSB)
•Installation of free-standing distribution board to provide supply to new ablution block, sewer pump station and for future outgoing sub-mains.
•Comply with all relevant codes and statutory requirements in particular BCA, AS3000, AS3008 and AS2293.


KATHERINE SPORTSGROUND – PAVILION AND CARPARK

PROJECT BRIEF SCOPE

The scope of works included

  • Demolition of the existing building
  • Main Building works, including hardscape to its perimeter, shading awning and landscaping works
  • Main building includes 4 x Change rooms, Male & Female Toilets, Outdoor Function Space, Kitchen, Offices,
  • Store rooms, First Aid Room, Comms Room and Cleaners Room
  • Upgradation to Electrical and Hydraulic works
  • New landscaping works around the building
  • New paved carpark with new lines marked parking bays and New paved “Drop Off” area (Including 8 x disabled bays and 5 x Parent’s parking)

PROJECT UPDATES

Katherine Town Council released tender for Katherine Sportsground and Carpark. The tender is closing on 6th November 2020.
