COVID-19 Assistance Grants for Katherine Businesses

Katherine Town Council has accepted a Special Community Assistance and Local Employment (SCALE) Grant provided by the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development in order to support the local community during the COVID-19 Pandemic.


COVID-19 RECOVERY AND REOPENING GRANT

Council will offer grants to businesses and Not For Profit Organisation to assist with reopening and recovery measures that provide employment opportunities to locals.
Katherine Municipality Businesses may apply for a one-off grant for mowing, slashing, cleaning or other activities and services that are necessary for the business to reopen and/or recover (not applicable for capital purchases).

The COVID-19 Recovery and Reopening Grants close 31 August 2020.

Rates Concession Scheme

Council is offering a rates concession or grant to property owners and tenants of a commercial property. These concessions/grants are applicable to commercial properties as well as rural and residential properties that operate a business from their private residence.

To be eligible for the rates concession or grant, applicants must meet the criteria as specified in the application process.

Upon application by an eligible ratepayer, Council will grant the following for each applicable allotment:

  1. A waiver of one (1) instalment of rates for 2020-21 and a deferment to pay rates until 1 January 2021
  2. A waiver for one (1) instalment of rates owing for 2019-20; or
  3. A waiver of one (1) instalment of rates for 2020-21 

In addition, for all qualifying allotments, the Council will grant a deferment of the obligation to pay rates declared for 2020-2021 until 1 January 2021

The total rate waiver amount available under (a) (b), and (c) is to be equal to a three-month waiver on annual rates for the allotment in accordance with Council’s declaration of rates for 2019-20.

To be eligible, the Department of Business Trade and Innovation will assess your eligibility and, if eligible, you will be issued with a Certificate of Hardship under the Business Hardship Package.

Once you have obtained your Business Hardship Application Number, confirmation letter/certificate of eligibility, you will need to complete the relevant COVID-19 Rates Concession/Grant Application Form:
