Media Release: Katherine Town Council's Community Response to COVID-19

In line with the Federal Governments updated restrictions, Katherine Town Council will be closing the following facilities to public access as of midnight, 25 March 2020:

  • Katherine Public Library
  • Katherine Visitor Information Centre
  • Katherine Aquatic Centre
  • Katherine Sportsgrounds
  • Katherine Showground
  • Katherine Hot Springs
  • Adventure Play Park

Katherine Town Council is exploring ways to continue to provide library services in a remote capacity with further details on this to be provided in a later update.

Katherine Visitor Information Centre will continue to provide customer service via telephone, email and via www.visitkatherine.com.au.

Further, Katherine Town Council Elected Members met on Monday 24 March 20 to discuss further support for business, the local economy and the community during this difficult and unprecedented period. With a more detailed announcement to be made at a later date, Elected Members have immediately agreed to the suspension of all interest on outstanding rates balance and cessation of any rates related legal action up to 30 June 2020 at which time the direction will be again reviewed.

With a number of major infrastructure projects nearing build stage, Katherine Town Council will ensure these projects are given the highest priority to ensure our local trades are supported through this time. Additionally, Katherine Town Council will be reviewing its current tender assessment weightings in order to ensure this much needed economic stimulus supports our business community.

Katherine Town Council will also be exploring ways to redirect staff into essential business support for our community.
