CBD Revitalisation Plan Endorsed
Katherine Town Council is pleased to announce the concept design for the CBD Revitalisation was unanimously endorsed at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on Tuesday 25 February 2020. The endorsement of these plans will now see the project progress through to the development of construction drawings, the associated development application process and finally, the highly anticipated tender release.
The endorsed designs will see the project commence at the Katherine Town Square which takes natural prominence within the Katherine CBD. The design focuses on a number of elements including reduced maintenance, shading, accessibility, safety and activation and utilise more simplified design principals.
The project involves shady trees that will create a natural canopy through the precinct, a portable café/kiosk, audio visual equipment and decorative lighting that can be adjusted for different occasions, cooling misters, public ablutions, safety lighting and CCTV cameras. The works will be further complemented by the inclusion of a locally designed and constructed sculpture, forming a unique feature within the project.

Revitalising the Town Square will ultimately create a space for the community to gather and socialise to the benefit of the surrounding businesses.
Katherine Town Council is more than happy to announce the endorsed plans fall under budget and will be delivered before the end of 2020. The costings also include the total fit-out of the project, ensuring that on completion of the project the space will be ready for the communities enjoyment.
