No Rate Payers Money Spent on Hot Springs Rectification

As the community is aware stage 1 of the Hot Springs came to a halt in 2017 with issues identified in the structural integrity as result of project management issues. Katherine Town Council takes ownership of this fault. Since this error was realised, considerable work has been undertaken to progress the project, including:

  •  3 Geo-technical global slope stability studies
  • Civil & structural compilation studies
  • Architectural & landscaping compilation studies
  • Gaining all necessary approvals
  • Documentation of works

Cardno Engineers, who are the consultants identified in the Katherine Times article, have confirmed that they are satisfied with the drawings that were released to tender in May 2019.

Katherine Town Council would like to reassure the Katherine Community that no rate payers money will be spent on the rectification of the Hot Springs.  Rectification works are planned for 2019 and as stated there are no general funds allocated as published in the capital works program for the same period.

As previously detailed in a statement from Katherine Town Council Stage 1 is scheduled to commence in July 2019, followed closely by Stage 2 in mid- October 2019, with the project finishing the end of 2019. We understand that this projects duration has been much longer than expected and we appreciate the patience of the Katherine Community.

Thank you to the community for your patience and we request your cooperation by adhering to all signage and alternative route to the Hot Springs during construction.

If you would like to keep up to date on this project please send your details to contactus@ktc.nt.gov.au and thank you for your cooperation.
