Katherine Public Library supports work experience opportunitiesposted 25-Jun-2018
Katherine Public Library has welcomed many work experience students through their doors over the years and last week saw another student join the ranks.
Over 2 weeks, Katherine public Library will be hosting Lana Miller as she completes her work experience placement of Certificate 2 in Business with Charles Darwin University. “As an assignment I needed to complete 2 weeks of work experience and have chosen the Library. Its been very good as I have already learnt new things I didn’t know,” said Ms Miller.
Current Library Officer, Emily Rosas completed her Work Placement subject, through Katherine High School over 5 years ago. Through her subject, she was asked to complete 25 hours of work experience. Ms Rosas chose the Katherine Public Library as she wanted to know more about the library services. “As a child I recall, coming to the library on a weekend with my mother, when it was downstairs.” said Ms Rosas. After completing her work experience placement, Ms Rosas, was successful in securing a Junior Library Assistant position and has worked through the organisation. Currently Ms Rosas is the Library Officer, and works 60 hours a fortnight. “My role is very enjoyable and is so much more than checking in and out of books. I work with a wide variety of people and every day is different,” said Ms Rosas.
Katherine Town Council looks forward to supporting and consulting with the Department of Education and Katherine High School with more work experience opportunities.
