Rates and Charges

Council rates are levied on each ratable property to raise funds to provide services and facilities to the community of Katherine.

The Katherine Town Council aims to keep rates as low as possible.

This objective is balanced against:

  • Councils commitment to respond to the demands and needs of all residents.
  • Councils responsibility to provide, maintain and improve a comprehensive range of recreational, cultural and environmental services and facilities.

Subdivisions

The attached document outlines the Guidelines for road works, storm-water drainage and street-lighting for subdivisions in Katherine, including Council's Sec C3 Town Planning Procedures for Sub Divisions in the Municipality of Katherine.

Developer Contribution Plan

The Northern Territory Planning Act 2005 allows the Katherine Town Council to prepare and enforce a Developer Contributions Plan (Part 6, sections 67 – 74).

Where proposed developments are likely to put extra demands on existing infrastructure, the Planning Act requires the Developer to contribute towards the additional cost of capital works generated by development in that area.
