Elected members (Aldermen)
The Council consists of six (6) Alderman (separately elected), and the Mayor.
Elections for Alderman and the Mayor are held every four years. In the instance of an Alderman resigning more than eight months prior to a general election, a bi-election is held to replace that Alderman. The next Katherine Town Council election will be held on the last Saturday of May 2012.

I first came to Katherine in January 1967 to nurse at the Katherine Hospital, I was elected to Katherine Town Council as an Alderman at a By Election in 2001 and was elected Mayor in May 2004.
Prior to being elected to Council I served on many Katherine Committees including being Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce for some years. I was elected Chairperson of the Katherine Business Reconstruction Committee after the 1998 Flood and this Committee was very successful in assisting people to deal with the Insurance Companies.
I care passionately about the whole of the Katherine Community. I want to work with all sections of the community to attain my dream of a harmonious and united community that celebrates and recognises its differences.
As Mayor I am committed to looking after the town’s assets in a more cost effective way through open democratic discussion.
Trevor Ford
Alderman
Like so many other long term "Katherinites" I came for a holiday in 1982 and never left. Coming from Western Australia where I worked in the cut throat building industry I saw the Northern Territory as the land of oppurtunity. My first job in Katherine was with the Travel North Group of companies. I ventured into my own business with my long term friend Neil Croft, a cafe/pizza restaurant called Popeye's. That was in 1990.
Since then I have survived (and thrived) through marriage, four sons and a flood and several small business ventures.
I have always been passionate about Katherine and despite the issues we have, I have considered life in the small (never sleepy) town to be wonderful. I embrace Aboriginal people and consider them to be an incredibly important part of our community. I believe that Katherine is so unique in its diversity. We rely on numerous facets for continued growth and prosperity. We have Tourism, Defence, Pastoral, Industry and Indigenous people, all vital to the development of our town.
I became interested in politics a number of years ago. I looked for a way to become involved in the local decision making process on more than just a personal level. This is the reason I stood for election to Council.
I see a bright and every-changing future for Katherine. I feel privileged to be part of that future.
