Dog registration in Katherine is compulsory for all dogs once they reach 3 months of age.
Registration is for 12 months and runs out on 30 June of each year. Initial or follow-up registration can be established at the Civic Centre. When registering your dog for the first time, where applicable you need proof of desexing, (e.g. a certificate or letter from the vet).
Keeping More Than Two Dogs
Policy for Registration of more than two dogs

- An application form, Pursuant to By-law 14, to be lodged
- A licence fee of $69.00 per annum to be paid on application.
- The written consent of the registered proprietor of the property to be lodged with the application.
- A maximum of four dogs per residential unit to be licensed.
- The residential property to be inspected to ensure adequate facilities are provided.
- Adjoining residential properties to be advised of the application.
- The licence is to be endorsed with the condition that the residential unit may, after written notice, be inspected to confirm the conditions of the licence are being complied with.
- All licences expire on the 30th June, issued pro-rata to the next complete month.
- The Council reserves the right to refuse to issue or renew a licence at any time.
- The Council reserves the right to cancel a licence at any time and refund, on a pro-rata basis, any outstanding fees.
- The Applicant, to be notified, in writing, Pursuant to By-Law 15, and the fee refunded in full within 28 days when an application for a licence is refused.
- The Council reserves the right to vary Clause 3.
- Application for a licence, under this Policy, for American Pitbull Terrier will not be permitted.
