Katherine Public Library is provided by Katherine Town Council with assistance from the Northern Territory Government.
The library has over 24,000 items in collection, including a special collection of books and other items about the Northern Territory and Katherine Region.
Our wide range of items for loan include novels and non-fiction book, large print books, graphic novels, books in other langauges, DVDs, videos, CD-ROMs, music CDs, spoken word and magazines.
Staff are committed to providing quality service to our patrons and are here to help and assist you so that you may enjoy and learn from the information provided.

Services and Facilities
Children's Storytime is held each Wednesday at 10:30 -11:30am. Each session includes a story telling, craft, song and dancing. These sessions are literacy based aimed to introduce young children to the library and the wonderful world of books.

Inter Library Loans is available when we do not provide a specific item but another NT library does.
Home Service is offered for people who are unable to visit the library due to illness of age. This service is provided with the assistance of Red Cross.
Computers are available for public use and includes word processing, internet and printing. Bookings are recommended. Wireless internet access is also available.
Other services we have to offer are faxing, photocopying, laminating, and binding all at a small fee.
Tours and Introductory Visits for schools and public can be arranged. If you are new to the library, we can guide you through the information jungle and assist with using the library's facilities.
If you have a question, please ask the library staff. They'll gladly show you around or help find the information you are looking for.

The Library Catalogue enables library users to search for items held by libraries in the Northern Territory and other online databases relating to health, literacy and science.
Members of Katherine Public Library may also use the catalogue to access their patron record to check what you have on loan or if you would like to request a book.

Joining the Library
Membership of the library is free of charge for residents of the Katherine Region. All you need to provide the library with is proof of current Katherine residential address and photo ID.
Those acceptable include
- Current NT driver’s license showing Katherine address;
- Or photo ID with the following:
- Account from Government Department or Utility eg. PowerWater or telephone bill
- Social Security, Pension of Health Care Card
- Tenancy Agreement
- RAAF Dependants Card
People who are unable to provide the library with proof of current residential address or are in Katherine on a short-term basis may still join the library for a small refundable fee.
Children under the age of 18 require permission from their parent or guardian, as Katherine Public Library is not a censorship body. The parent's or guardian's signature is required on the membership card.
